Structural Engineering

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING is a field that focuses on the analysis and design of load-bearing structures like bridges, tunnels, and buildings. The work of a structural engineer includes creating, verifying, and applying physical models of a structure, its loads, and materials. They also analyze and interpret specifications, drawings, and concepts. This often includes performing strength calculations using the finite element method (FEM) with software like ABAQUS, Ansys, SCIA Engineer, etc., and providing advice on structures to clients, project managers, and architects. They also check completed structures for technical correctness, safety, and stability. The profession requires a focus on traditional and new building materials and methods, including concrete, steel, wood, masonry, plastics, glass, and foundations. Master's programs include: Master Structural Engineering (Hogeschool van Amsterdam, TU Delft) and Master's track Structural Engineering and Design (TU/e).
